How Much Does a Pocket Door Weigh ?

On average, pocket doors weigh between 60 and 120 lbs. Since almost any door can be be used as a pocket door, the weight will depend on several factors. A French pocket door with lites usually weighs less than a solid door, for example, and the wood species matters too, of course. Furthermore, the size of the door is another factor that figures into the equation.

Pocket door installation

Pocket door installation is a great project that will give
you an average of 10 square feet of floor space than a traditional hinged
door.

Before you begin the demolishing of your existing wall, make sure you know what is inside of your wall, like water pipes or electrical lines.

Invest in the best door frames and
components. In my opinion, Johnson Hardware offers the best quality track, hardware, and frame kits on the market today, but do yourself a favor and invest a few extra dollars in the "commercial grade" lines that they offer. The residential stuff just doesn't hold up as well in the long run.

Ease of Pocket Door Installation

"How hard is it to install a pocket door frame kit?"

Thanks for asking Henry. The easiest pocket door of them all to install is the Wall Mount Pocket Door System. It doesn't get much simpler than that!

Standard Pocket doors are easiest to be added during new home construction, or during remodeleing. Installing a pocket door in an existing home is a little bit of work but nothing excessive. It's well worth the effort in the end.

You'll need to do some demolition work to create the opening for a pocket door. You'll need an opening a little larger than twice the size of the pocket door you intend to use. First, however, examine the wall you're about to demolish to determine if it has water or electrical lines you may need to re-route, or if it's a load bearing wall. Take appropriate action.

Get the best pocket door hardware you can find, for years of trouble-free operation. We sell only the heavy duty variety at BuildingHomeCenter.com You won't usually find this stuff at you're local Home Depot or Lowes. If you're going to do the framing yourself, then our track and hardware systems are the way to go.

We also carry the full Frame Kits as well. They have steel wrapped studs that won't warp over time, and the rollers and track are designed in such a way as to virtually eliminate the rollers jumping from the track.
